Současné umění jako téma ve středoškolské výuce
(empirický výzkum na středních školách s výtvarným zaměřením a cyklus řízených rozhovorů s umělci – pedagogy)
Researcher: Mgr. Magdalena Adámková Turzová
Co-researchers: Doc. Mgr. Vladimír Havlík
The object of this project is an implementation of the empirical research in secondary art education. This research is a constituent part of the dissertation work of investigator Magdalena Adamková Turzová and it aims to explore the issue, how is the contemporary art presented as a topic in art education in secondary/high schools - we are interested about the resources which are used in the preparation of teachers for this teaching topic, which methods are selected in relation to them, where takes place the contact of the student with the contemporary artwork (galleries, public space). The planned research project IGA also aims to find out the additional resources, from which students learn about contemporary art and their personal preferences in this area. A design of the research is mixed, we will collect data through questionnaires distributed to selected secondary schools and interviews with art teachers. The project has two parts: 1 / Implementation of data collection through questionnaires and personal interviews in selected secondary schools (students of the third and fourth year of study and art teachers working in these schools). 2 / Guided interviews with selected creative teachers who are teaching in secondary art schools and who are dealing at the same time with their own artwork. These interviews will be held at the Department of Art Education PdF UP and will be accessible to the public. In the first part of the research will be conducted using a questionnaire with open and closed questions, which will be presented to the students of selected last year of secondary schools, which will identify the sources of information from which students learn about contemporary art and where are they directly confronted with it. In the questionnaire we will further investigate students' preferences in visual culture. To the teachers will be given a questionnaire with questions on methods of delivering of the contemporary art to students, on implementation of the issue in the thematic and educational programs, on sources of information about contemporary art and on teachers' preferences about selection of galleries presenting contemporary art. The second part of the project is the implementation of the cycle of guided interviews with art teachers engaged in secondary art schools, who are also dealing with their own artwork. Pre-prepared questions will focus on the following areas: - Methods of mediation of contemporary art - The possibility of students' influence by their own work and their personal preferences - The curriculum of secondary art schools and current trends in the field of visual culture These interviews will be held at the Department of Art Education PdF UP in the building UCUP and will be accessible to students, teachers and the public. They will help to bring the issue of secondary school art teaching and emphasize the need to follow up the problem of mediation of contemporary art to the public.
Artists in the Picture
Researcher: Mgr. Alexandr Jančík
Co-researchers: Doc. Vladimír Havlík
The project "Artists in the Picture" is closely related to the thesis of Alexandr Jančík, the principal investigator of the project. The thesis deals with the contemporary developmental tendencies of performative audio-visual production after 2000 in the Czech Republic which is focused on the depiction of the authors in their own works. Those Czech authors of moving images who personally appear in front of the camera so that they could become a part of their own spontaneous, performative and stylized action are emphasized. Self-depiction and self-presentation is a significant phenomenon of new media era; the massive abundance of such manifestations is enabled especially by means of the Internet environment and "physical" recording, easy controllability and financial accessibility of recording technologies. For this purpose, not only video cameras, but also all devices including cameras, mobile phones and web cameras might be used. Despite the fact that this situation has been lasting since the middle 1960, the widespread use of technologies in authorial works focused on self-depiction appears at the turn of the millennium in connection with simple digital capture of audio-visual track, often at artistically and pedagogically oriented schools. The production of authorial audio-visual works which are focused on the act of self-depiction is preferred also within the framework of intermedia seminars that are supervised by the project investigators Mgr. Alexandr Jančík and Doc. Vladimír Havlík from the Department of Art Education, Faculty of Education, Palacký University. The direct reflection of the contemporary production of Czech artists is therefore the essential informational and inspirational source for which there is, however, insufficient space within the courses themselves. The project "Artists in the Picture" should mediate personal contact between students and the selected artists in form of authorial presentations, discussions moderated by the investigators which will be recorded and processed into the form of study materials used in the long term and including video records and text analyses of artistic works of specific creators. This material will serve for adequate study purposes as well as Alexandr Jančík's own research for his thesis which should deal with not only genre division and possibilities of hierarchization of categories that are variously produced by the artists, but also by basal questions such as what kind of meaning and feedback can be provoked by self-depiction from the viewpoint of education in the case of students of arts, how can communication strategy of authorial self-depiction influence potential percipients and what does it mean to turn the camera against oneself. The inseparable part of the project will be a video installation in the existing exhibition space of the Monitor Gallery which is located in the Art Centre of Palacký University, Konvikt and other related exhibition and performative acts in the locations of Olomouc and public space.
Useful Symbiosis Reloaded
Researcher: Mgr. Petra Šobáňová, Ph.D.
Co-researchers: Mgr. Tereza Hrubá, Mgr. Lucie Tikalová
The project Užitečná symbióza reloaded (Useful Symbiosis Reloaded) develops the topical theme of the mutual relation between art and science. In the course of interdisciplinary research, the researchers will analyse non-traditional contexts of visual art, and expertly compile the issues of the overlap of art and exact subject fields. The main outcome of the project will be a professional book in the English language. Its content will be based on the findings of the research into the mutual relation between art and science, and the various forms of their mutual overlapping and influencing will be presented in the book. The authors will also consider the educational extent of these intersections as well as present examples of educational projects integrating the knowledge of natural history and social science with works of art. The book will be completed with a rich pictorial supplement exemplifying the theses of the mutual overlaps of the two fields of human culture. The project Užitečná symbióza reloaded (Useful Symbiosis Reloaded) is a follow-up to the successful grant project Užitečná symbióza (Useful Symbiosis) of Pavel Forman and Tereza Hrubá – the PhD. students at the Department of Art Education of the Faculty of Education at the Palacký University in Olomouc. The researchers of the project expect to involve the broader teams of researchers from the Palacký University in Olomouc and the art department of the University of Southern Indiana v Evansville (Indiana, U.S.A.) and Brescia University in Owensboro (Kentucky, U.S.A.). The subject matters of the interdisciplinary research are as follows: theory of science, philosophy, theory and history of art, and education i.e. methodology of art education.

Edukace dějin umění v kontextu výtvarné výchovy
Researcher: Mgr. Veronika Jurečková
Co-researchers: Doc. PhDr. Hana Myslivečková, CSc.
The aim of the project is to present the results from on-giong research investigating whether the findings in contemporary historiography and the theory of art history are reflected in the field of art history education at high schools. We have focused on the factors that have a negative impact on the effectiveness of teaching, which include: the tradition of linear teaching, the imbalance of lesson content, the ignorance of regional specifics, the detachment from real life necessities, the lacking awareness of the contrasting nature of art history education (its relationship with the core discipline of art history) in the context of art education or the integration of critical thinking and aesthetics in art history education.. The results from the ongoing research wil be presented at the AAH 40th Anniversary Annual Conference & Bookfair, 10 - 12 April 2014 at the Royal College of Art, London (together with dr. Šobáňovou) and in two published papers – see project objectives Our particular objective is to publish a book in English called „Creative Expressive Inspiring“ presenting to the foreign professional audience selected issues of Czech art education, which were discussed at our expert forums.
